The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 recommends the provision of relevant fire safety signs them all workplaces. Guidance documents that support the Regulatory Order states that ‘a fire risk assessment that determines the escape signage is not required, (because for example trained staff will always be available to help visitors to the escape route), is unlikely to be acceptable to an enforcing authority!
It is therefore important that an accurate assessment of your premises is undertaken and any signage identified within this process is provided in accordance with the recommendations contained within British Standard BS ISO 7010 and BS5499.
Compass can provide independent advice regarding the correct provision of signage within your premises. We will ensure that you receive the best value for money and all signage will be provided as photo-luminescent rigid plastic.
Photo luminescent signage does not negate the requirement to provide emergency lighting within certain areas of the workplace; this point can be further discussed during any future fire risk assessment or signage survey.
“Compass can supply and fit high quality safety signage at affordable prices. We only use the very best photo-luminescent rigid plastic signs.”
What is photoluminescence?
Photoluminescence is a special kind of phosphorescence. The energy needed to activate it is supplied by common light sources such as daylight, tungsten filament and fluorescent lights.
Under sudden power loss situations, the material is conspicuous at some distance, providing an effective, bright contrast for text and graphical symbols and ensuring that safety messages are quickly recognised. This assists people to orientate themselves so that they can react effectively and evacuate efficiently.
